January 2018 Beauty Favourites

Essie Nail Polish in Licorice – I wear a lot of black so of course I need a black nail polish!

Nars Blush in Orgasm – I am a huge fan of Nars products, especially their Exhibit A blush, but I had never tried Orgasm, the brands cult fave before! I get the hype- it is the perfect gold tinged pink to make you look healthy and fresh but not overly made up.

Clarins Blue Orchid Face Oil– I literally cannot say enough about my love for this product!!! It is meant for dehydrated skin and I use it over my serum before my moisturizer. It locks in hydration and feels amazing on my face. I have only been using it for a few weeks, but I really feel like it is soothing the redness and irritation around my nose and mouth and also helping blemishes heal faster.

Maybelline Dream Cushion Foundation– This is a super light textured, medium coverage foundation. So far, I like it but I am never sure how to apply cushion products. I don’t want to use my fingers but the little pad that comes with it is pretty disappointing. After some trial and error, I am now applying with a foundation buffing brush which works a treat.

Benefit The Pore Professional Pearl Primer– I like the original pore professional but it was a bit too matte for my taste. The pearl version gives a nice glow under my makeup and the texture is so soft and smooth. My only complaint about this product is that it doesn’t spread across the face that well so I feel like I end up using too much.

Mac Retro Matte Lipstick in Ruby Woo– This iconic lipstick is the perfect pin-up red. I can’t believe I have never owned this before!

Pixi Glow Tonic– This is a bit of a cult favourite so I decided to check it out. I like its exfoliation properties but I think I have to put it away until spring because my skin is too dry for it at the moment.

Any products that you tried this month that I need to check out??

Beauty Favourites- November 2017

Beauty Favourites- November 2017

Essie Good to go! Top Coat– I am forever messing up my nails when I do them at home so a quick dry top coat is a must. This one dries as fast as advertised and also has a great shine to it. I don’t know if my mani stays put any longer than usual but it looked great while it lasted.

L’Oreal True Match Lumi Makeup– This is not a new purchase, but a rediscovery. I was looking in my makeup cabinet for a foundation that would illuminate my dry, dull skin and this is perfect. It is full coverage and needs to be blended really well but it makes my skin look aces!

Nars Powermatte Lipstick in “Starwoman”- I received this as a sample during one of my recent (and all to frequent) Sephora orders. I am OBSESSED with the colour. It goes on super smooth and has a lot of staying power. I will be investing in a full size lipstick when this runs out and I am already looking at additional colours to buy!

L’Oreal Extraordinary Oil Shampoo– My hair and scalp are super dry at this time of the year so I decided to try this shampoo after seeing it reviewed by a beauty vlogger on YouTube. It smells amazing and makes my hair soft and smooth. It requires a serious rinse after but if rinsed out well, my hair is not weighed down at all, even though it is an “oil”

Skin Fix Hand Repair Cream– My hands are the worst. Always dry and cracking in the winter. I have used Skin Fix products on my children with great results so I grabbed this hand cream. Love it- thick but absorbs well and doesn’t leave your hands insanely greasy.

September 2017 Beauty Favourites

If you follow my instagram stories (if you are not- follow me here) you may know that I recently changed my hair colour. After about four years as a platinum blond, I decide to go to a darker colour that would be a bit lower maintenance and a little more interesting. September is the perfect time for a change, isn’t it?

New Hair Who Dis

With the new, darker hair I have been playing around with more intense makeup, as I look a little washed out without any on on (see above). I have gone back to some older faves and added some new items into the mix!

Here is what I have been loving this month!

September Beauty Favourites

Nars Blush in Exhibit A– I first posted about this product back in 2013 here and I had been using the product for a long time even before that!  It is a terrifying colour on the palette and a little goes a long way but it looks amazing on. It is the only blush that I have ever used that I come back to time and time again.
Benefit High Beam Liquid Highlighter– I have used so many Benefit products over the years but I don’t think I had ever tried this one before. I love the way that this highlighter looks but I find that it needs a LOT of blending to look natural. If you are willing to take the time, though, you will look dewy AF!
Neutrogena All-in- One Makeup Removing Cleansing Wipes– There is a reason that Neutrogena wipes are a favourite of Kim Kardashian. They take off the heaviest of makeup and are still gentle on the skin. I have tried cheaper and more expensive wipes and these clean the floor with them (pun intended).
Charlotte Tillbury The Dolce Vita Eyeshadow Palette– This brand is a spurge for sure but worth it. This palette is SO stunning. The colours look amazing on and mix and match perfectly. I do feel like I walked out of an Fellini movie when I use this- so glam.
Decleor Micellar Oil(c/o)- I have been so disappointed by micellar waters that I was so excited when Decleor sent this oil my way. It actually removes makeup and leave your skin SO SO soft. I use it every night as a second cleanse after my makeup removing wipes if I have a lot of makeup on, but otherwise it cleanses amazingly well all on its own.
Maybelline Brow Precise Fiber Volumizer– My eyebrows can get a little unruly and are not that full so I love this texturizing brow gel. My brows stay sleek and shaped all day.

What I Wore- Weekend Style

We always have busy weekends and this time of the year, things seem to be even more packed then usual.  Between a ton of birthdays and people just generally coming out of hiding after a long winter, this month has been a bit bananas.

This weekend we have brunch dates, a third birthday party, a visit with my dad and still managed to muck out the backyard and do all the usual weekend errands. Today, I need a weekend to recover from my weekend.

I wore this outfit to brunch on Saturday with friends at The Farmhouse Tavern, a fantastic restaurant in the Junction area of Toronto. Our friend Alex is the chef there and they do amazing things with bacon, among lots of other things!!!!

What I Wore- Comfortable Simplicity

I think of this outfit as a companion to this one. This sweater is my go-to for cozy and these pants are the perfect mix between legging and jegging (without the jean part) and are still nice enough for the office. I love grey and black together and adding my new bag and sunnies glam up this very casual look.

Whats on my vanity – March 2013

I have been trying to stick to a short but effective makeup routine. I have found that on the days when I am tired and running after my little man, a bit of face paint helps me feel more human.

This is what I am using right now:

BB Cream

Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream in Light

Cover Girl Fresh Complexion Under Eye Concealer in Creamy Natural

Purely Pro Cosmetics Eye Shadow in Luxury

Maybelline New York The Rocket Volum’ Express in Black

Nars Exhibit A

Nivea Essential Care Lip Balm

Revlon Color Burst Lip Butter in Candy Apple

It may sound like a lot, but it literally takes me five minutes and I feel good about showing my face outside the house!!

What is your everyday makeup favorite??

Dilemma- make-up for my new hair

I recently chopped off much of my hair and coloured it platinum. While I already had short blond hair, this was a HUGE change and it has taken a long time to get used to it. Mirrors were so freaky for awhile- it was like there was a stranger looking back at me. Also, I had to completely revamp my make-up routine to go with my hair. I needed to figure out how to make my features stand out against the brightness of the hair- I can look all one colour without makeup now.

I have discovered some really great products that help me feel more at home with my new look

Nars Sheer Glow Foundation – I often have a hard time getting foundations that are fair enough for me. This is the first time I have bought a brand that actually has a lighter tone then even I wear. This foundations has amazing coverage and looks really natural.

MAC Lustergloss in Venetian– This is a nice non sticky red gloss that gived me the glam red lip look without looking OTT in the day time.

Benefit They’re Real Mascara– This super stay mascara helps me lengthen my stubby lashes with an awesome brush that helps get even the super short lashes in the corners. It can be hard to get off so you really need a good eye make up remover.

Benefit Dandelion Blush– This perfect pink blush helps give me the cheek bones I need to pull off this hair!

Nars Eye Shadow in Earth Angel– This eye shadow duo in an shimmery taupe and a subtle green make my eyes really “pop”.
